“Flower has hit it out of the ballpark with this series and continues to amaze with her knowledge of the Amish way of life."- 4 1/2 stars Top Pick RT Book Reviews about A Plain Disappearance The Amish community in Appleseed Creek’s new bishop believes the best way to help his district in the struggling economy is to increase tourism. He invites Blue Suede Tours from Mississippi to visit the community and asks his district to host the southern visitors. The Troyer family agrees to participate in the tour with an old-fashioned milking demonstration on the family’s dairy farm. But when two Mississippians die during the milk taste test, the local police chief believes someone poisoned them, and Timothy Troyer’s father is her number suspect. Computer whiz, Chloe Humphrey, jumps onto the tour bus as an undercover tour guide in order to prove her boyfriend’s father is innocent despite the Troyer family’s reservations about her and Timothy’s relationship. If they solve crime, will Chloe and Timothy finally prove that they belong together or will the investigation be the final act to tear them apart?

"Wonderful installment in the Plain series!!! This engaging storyline was so delightful to read. While there are murders to solve, the author never bogs us down in anything too heavy! Yes, there is suspense and drama, but it doesn't get too dark. There is a wonderful element of hope in all four stories, especially in this ending. I didn't review the other three because they were well reviewed, but this one had so many complaints about editing I had to speak up. I didn't see any of those issues with this story -- NONE. I guess Ms. Flowers was able to get this book updated to correct any editing errors that were in the earlier release. But, I don't want to say this is the Final book in this series, because we MUST persuade Ms. Flowers to give us MORE!!! We would love to read how Timothy and Chloe fared, and how Thomas and little Naomi grew up, what did Becky end up being ---- an artist, tour guide, teacher, or did the spark fan into a flame between her and the new Englisher, and please, please, we need to know about Grandfather Zook, his legacy is so evident throughout each story and it would be wonderful to read about it thru his family's eyes. And Chief Rose -- there must be more for her -- a love interest, or how she finally got the respect she deserves from Sheriff's office! The message of God's salvation and grace, His mercy we should share with all those lives He allows us to meet, is so beautifully explored in all Four books in this series; a Plain Death, A Plain Scandal; A Plain Disappearance and lastly A Plain Malice. I will enjoy reading these books again, and hopefully any other additions to the set!"

A Plain Malice Appleseed Creek Mystery Series Volume 4 Amanda Flower Books Reviews
- I was really looking forward to reading this fourth book in the Appleseed Creek series, but I was very disappointed with it. The story line is good enough, but the whole thing reads like a rough draft -- typos, words left out of sentences, sentences that seemed cut and pasted together in ways that didn't make sense, grammatical errors and occasional clunky writing. I found myself wondering if maybe the publisher released the wrong copy. I love, love, love the other books in this series and think Ms. Flower is a wonderful writer, but I think another pass through it by the editors would have caught the goof-ups and brought the book up to the author's usual standard. I haven't actually finished the book -- the errors are quite distracting -- but I'm going to keep at it because I know the overall story will be worth it.
- When the people from a tour bus are visiting the Troyer's farm two people drop dead after drinking the fresh milk. Chloe is once again in the middle of a murder investigation. Coerced by Chief Rose to join the group as their new tour guide in order to keep all of the suspects in one place, Chloe must endure the cranky bus driver and disgruntled passengers in order to find out who the murderer is.
I enjoyed the mystery of A PLAIN MALICE. There were several twists and turns as well as many misleads before the actual killer is found out. Chloe and Timothy's relationship has grown closer, but still has a few bumps to iron out. Chloe is an independent young woman and Timothy, being raised Amish, finds Chloe constantly fighting against his desire to protect her. Curt and his nasty friend also make an appearance in this book. Curt says he has turned over a new leaf, but his caring for Chloe and her inability to return the feelings may cause him to spiral once again. Hopefully we will see next book. So for a return to characters that I am fond of and an exciting mystery to go with those characters I enjoyed A PLAIN MALICE and look forward to the next installment of the Appleseed Creek mysteries.
Unfortunately I do have to mention that I think that the author lost her publisher for this book and so it didn't go through the editing process that a more traditional publishing route may have gone. A PLAIN MALICE reminded me of an unedited ARC copy which is something I am used to reading, but may be extremely distracting to others that are expecting a more polished book. - Wonderful installment in the Plain series!!! - Great entry in the Appleseed Creek Mystery series. Flower once again manages to create proper tension between Amish and English life, without painting either one as idyllic. I have enjoyed the romance blossoming between Timothy and Chloe and loved the final scene (I won't spoil it for you, but it was very romantic and fitting).
Caveat The editing done on this book was very poor! In many places, there were simple typos--words spelled incorrectly. In other places, the entire word was used incorrectly. For example, the word "centurion" was subbed for the word "centenarian"--two very different concepts, almost laughably wrong! I'm not sure who Flower's editors and proofreaders are but they let her down, and the errors became distracting. Even if I weren't a spelling and grammar Nazi I feel the errors are hard for readers to overlook.
Despite the errors, a fun book and I'm glad I purchased it! The Ohio setting (right up the road from home; the author even sets one scene at Ye Olde Mill in Utica, although not mentioning the name) put me right at home and the characterizations were believable. Looking forward to many, many more books from this talented young author!
