Draw Stronger SelfCare For Cartoonists and Other Visual Artists Kriota Willberg 9781941250235 Books Reviews

  • I'm an illustrator and animator who has suffered (possibly lifelong) injuries due to a poor work set up. Now that I'm working mainly from home, breaks and strengthening exercises are easier for me to do throughout the day. This book gives you very helpful exercises and stretches from head to toe to keep you creating at your best, and doesn't shy from telling you to see a specialist before you ending up hurting yourself worse.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase and will be using it throughout my career.
  • Practical tips on drawing injuries, pain, working smarter and has a section on exercise which includes combination work/exercise patterns. Loved that Willberg refers to artist injuries as being like athletic injuries.
  • This book has been really helpful in learning techniques to stretch! Using just a handful of new stretches and strengtheners for a few days every so often has helped my upper back and shoulders a lot! This book is a fun read given that being an artist it helps that it has interesting visuals and jokes to help break down the medical terms and whatnot. I have been wanting to help myself as an art athlete but from what I gathered google searches are lackluster in knowledge for artists and can be quite boring. This book is the complete opposite! I'm very happy this book exists. Definitely would recommend.
  • The book's unique combination of health and humor results in a beautifully portrayed guide to care for your body as an artist. The book is very practical, BUT nothing happens unless you put the words into action.
  • If you are a cartoonist, visual artist, or just frequently work with your hands, you are going to want to pick up a copy of Draw Stronger by Kriota Willberg. It’s a beautifully illustrated guide and packed with all you need to know about self-care as an artist. There are a variety of tips, advice, and steps to take better care of your hands and body overall. You’ll find practical advice, like keeping in mind better posture, taking breaks, and caring for your hands with stretches and acknowledging your body when there are signals you need to rest or see a physician.

The creative process is time-consuming and a lot of the time people tend to neglect their bodies and caring for themselves because they get so absorbed into their work, but this little guide is thoughtful and informative. It’s the perfect self-care reminder to help you take better care and sustain a pain-free life while doing what you love–even us book bloggers!
